SYMEGA commemorated the occasion of International Chefs Day (20th October) with a first-of-its-kind virtual cooking event for children – Cook-a-long with little chefs – on 17th October 2020.
The event saw nearly 60 children in the age group of 5-15 years, all from the Symega family, cooking alongside Symega’s in-house chefs on a web conferencing platform. The chefs, cooking from Symega kitchens at our Kochi and Bengaluru facilities, guided the budding chefs on the nuances of pre-preparation, preparation, plating and presentation in the most interesting and lively manner to keep participants enthused. Children followed instructions from the chefs in real-time and prepared the dishes in parallel, referring to their mobile and computer screens for guidance, and from the comfort and safety of their homes.
Keeping the age group in mind, the chef’s had designed a menu with four recipes that needed no fire or complex vegetable preparation, and we called the concept Fireless Cooking. Images and video clips of the final dishes from all participants were collected after the event, and were evaluated to award the best Little Chef.
As times remain challenging and families cautious, it is imperative that we explore new avenues to keep the connections intact. And Cook-a-long was a true display of how to leverage technology to create new experiences while retaining the warmth in our relationships, however remotely located they may be.
